wear what u want to wear there is always going to be someone who is going to judge u.
goth
Just be yourself and to hell with what others think. If they are your real friends they should accept you for who you are. If they don’t then its their loss.
music and dress sence have nothing in connection apart from band cloathing…. why do you care what people think
be yourself
BE YOURSELF.. heck i listen to rock and i wear work clothes (and pink too!) if they talk behind your back they are not good friends! good luck xx
Ok. Well, I love rock and roll and I am a girly girl who wears bright colors all the time. It hasnt affected my life! Stop worrying about what others think of you. If they are your true friends they will not care….
be yourself…it is that simple. be who you are and let them be who they are…friends can be different and still be friends. makes it more interesting sometimes.
people have been listening to rock since the late 50s or early 60s ( not everybody agrees on the ate) and they didn’t all wear black clothes. most wore blue jeans.
live a little. try color.
First thing is that you need to stop worrying about what other people think (I know its not easy). Clothes don’t make the person. If your friends don’t like your new clothing choices, then they’re not true friends. You should also listen to whatever music you like. Your clothes don’t dictate your taste.
you must be really young. rock and roll isn’t about wearing black it’s about doing what you want and sticking it to the man. has jack black taught you nothing?
"i feel that if i dont wear all black then i shouldnt be listening to rock and roll"
That is just asinine. The color of your clothes should have nothing to do with what type of music you like.
The reason a lot of the people who go goth do it, is they want to be nonconformist. If the only reason you wear black is to be a conformist then your doing for the wrong reason. Try this. Wear something different and tell them to *uck themselves. If they are in your butt for the way you dress their not your friends so F them.
Music doesn’t have a dress code only the fans who follow each genre.
*********The whole point of Rock is to be your self! I personally dress in pink most of the time and listen Rock…if your friend don’t like you b/c of what you wear maybe it’s time to find a new crowd.
Be yourself it’s a wonderful thing..by the way clothes shopping for you will be much fun!!!!!!!!!!!
Lol I love NY hard core, rock, underground, goth like type-o-negative, country, blues and classical music.
I dress the way I want, if anyone questions me becasue of my dress and my musical likes I would say they are the posers. Music is an art that should touch all of us differently. If it becomes a style or a fad then its not music its MTV garbage.
Be you you are and stay true to yourself, you will see being a leader is far better then a follower.
you can wear colors and still listen to rock and roll they have nothing to do with eachother…and if your "FRIENDS" stop hanging out with you because you wear different colors then they truly are NOT your friends
Do what makes you happy. If you want to wear colors then wear colors. If your friends are real friends then they won’t care what you wear. Also you don’t have to wear all black to listen to rock music. Don’t sterotype yourself. I hope I could help! Good Luck!
Okay… here’s the thing…
It doesn’t have to be all or nothing.
Start with something small and add a little bit of color to your wardrobe. Choose a color you like and that you feel looks good on you.
Another thing you might think about is make up. You’d be surprised how much lightening up on your eye make-up will make a difference. You can still look ‘edgy’ without looking goth if you go for a little less eye liner and a more natural lip.
Don’t let fear determine what you wear. You need to have the look that makes you feel the most confident you can. And there’s nothing wrong with color — just start small.
Good luck!
I encourage you to get over what other people think about you. I know it’s difficult, but you can’t let others define you.
You are unique. You have talents and value that no one else on earth has!
Go shopping and find something to wear that you like. If someone makes a comment, either ignore it or say something positive;
Someone says, "What’s with that shirt?"
You say, "I know, isn’t it fabulous!" then walk away or change the subject.
Best of luck to you. Remember, it’s not what’s on the outside that’s important (black or colorful clothing). It’s what’s in your heart that matters.
You shouldn’t care about what they think if they are your true friends then they should still except you for you. Wearing colorful clothes doesn’t mean you can’t listen to rock and roll music.
I love heavy rock and I used to have black hair, black clothes, black lipstick etc. But I realised it made me look ill (my family also thought this) so I wear more colourful clothes and have dyed my hair back to its original colour.
I actually feel better in myself and I STILL listen and love heavy rock. The two don’t have to be linked.
- Although I still refuse to wear pink – I hate pink.
Introduce a little color into every outfit. You’ll feel better, but you won’t shock your friends. My favorite T-shirt right now is dark purple with gray designs on it, and it looks great with black. Or wear a red skirt with a black top and black shoes. You can also use color with your accessories, like a purple necklace or something. If your friends get all upset about this, I suggest getting some new friends because who needs shallow, judgmental people? Maybe you’re growing and changing and taking your life in a different direction now, and it might be time to move on.
they should accept you as you are. not by what you wear.
i used to wear all dark clothing, and like you, got fed up with it.
just inject a bright colour [not literally lol] into your outfit,
that could be a bright necklace//accessories, or bag.
or
wear a coloured top
printed tops are good, even if you get them in black to start off, most prints are in a brighter colour anyways.
just do simple things untill you feel comfortable again.
but seriously, dont dwell on how people will percieve you.
just be you – whether that be in black or yellow and green polka dots! =] =o
let’s start off my saying there is nothing wrong with labels its how we sort ourselves. Changing your outter image completely is difficult when coming from such and extreme style. Try shopping in departments stores, try wearing things that reflect you but aren’t typically you, don’t jump into Hollister or Abercrombie because people will think you are fake. But slowly adjust, stop wearing black pants with the chains and if you hair is dyed and un-natural color dye it back to its natural color. Jeans are a staple of everyones wardrobe so invest in 3 or 4 pair. Also eliminate baggy sweatshirts, fishnets and wearing safety pins. Make-up does make a difference, aim for a natrual look with your make up and buy a tube of lip gloss. Wear nicely fitted band tees might help in the transition period of changing you style. Look at what the "normal" kids are wearing and pick and choose what you like to go shopping. The last and maybe most important thing is to change your attitude, minimalize your cursing, don’t hang-out in the court yard at school, try to be more up beat and out going. Joining a club at school is an easy way to branch out because you automaticly have something in common with other kids.
Thats a start.

I hope you find yourself.
I LOVE rock and roll music. I’m a huge Rob Zombie fan. My favorite colors are blue and pink.
Does that mean that I’m not REALLY a fan?
No. It just means that I do what I want, I don’t have to fit the perfect mold of what people think a Rob Zombie fan would look like.
And if the people you hang out with start talking about you because you start wearing different colored clothes, they aren’t really that great of friends anyways. They should accept you for who you are. Not what you wear.
I think that so many people are not free to wear what they want. Next time that you are wearing colours and someone says that you are not a ture goth/emo tell those people that just becasue you listen to the music does not mean you have to wear black and that it is not supposed to be a uniform. Music should not dictate to what you wear and you must decide you don’t want to be one of the masses (as all goths seem to wear black) and what you listen to does not decide what you wear. I love the likes of Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix but you won’t see me wearing bell bottoms and dye tyes.
Just be yourself and don’t worry about what others think about you. If they are truly your friends than the should except you for who you are and they will respect your decisions. Don’t let nobody control who you are if they don’t like the way you are than they are not your friends.
You look like a pretty smart person to me….
How would YOU unlabel yourself? Dye your hair back to a normal color? Get rid of the heavy black eye make up or the outstanding lip color?
Ummm want to do it cheaply!? Start off slowly… a little black a little color…. then slowly into dark colors and into the brights.
You don’t have to go DRASTIC over night.
Man I see the BEST clothes in second hand stores and Goodwill etc! I was in a Goodwill store in Spartanburg, SC recently… I did not even SEE BLACK! It’s all spring and summer colors, the store was clean and the people friendly… had lots of radio television shirts/ breat cancer drive shirts/ peta and animal rights… whoa. AND POLKADOTS galore.
.. if your afraid that the "Goth/emo set will start talking about you.. LET THEM! Find yourself a new set of friends, if they "talk abut you" they are not REALLY your friends anyway!
MAN ohhhh MAN, when you say that I never realized that me in my Izod shirts or Polo (my mom was gave them to me and she wanted me to look nive in HS and College) they are so comfortable after a while was a fashion tragedy). I never really thought too much about it until now.
I use to hang in Charlotte, NC at the Milestone (one of the first punk clubs beside the Church of Musical Awareness) I’ve seen tons of bands REM, Pylon, The Cramps, The Butthole Surfers, the Dead Milkmen, concrete blonde, game theory, southern culture on the skids, thomas dolby, B-52’s, INXS, Del fegos, Let’s active, Fetchin Bones, Smoking Dave and the Premo Dopes, Mighty Boss TOnes… (Those were my clubing days after 18 years old here you could drink back then) And before THAT I’d sneak to Aerosmith, ZZ top, Van Halen, Blue Oyster Cult, twisted sister, Iron Maiden Sammy Hagar, Rush, Scorpions etc etc I had no idea there was REAL music until I started clubing.
Wonder what I looked like to those people… I was nice to them an they were nice to me. I ran Light boards for the Dead Milkemen and King Missle dressed all Prep because I was a good BSer back then and the owner of the club asked me you know how to do the light boards I said yeah Kinda why.. well your in here enough sitting behind there I thought you were friends with them.. YEAH I said, Yeah.. took me over and let me start playing with the lights and slides and buttons (just like a sound board) and all I did was have fun with my buzz on and Got the gig! hehehe FUUUUN!
POINT IS… be yourself, treat people the way you want to be treated, don’t label people yourself (it’s a hard habit to break I know) and if "they talk about you… screw `em. Don’t need friends like that anyways!
PS because you took me down memory lane for a sec…
Imagine this is you will… I heavy set white boy, "prep-ed out" waitin outside a night club at 3 in the afternoon (I was always paranoid to get lost in the city at night) I just started helping carrying stuff in and being nice and telling about where the hoel is and good places to eat Smokin Up with the Rastas from Third World!??? .. can you dig it me and them and their helper all cracking up having a blast and they just laughing there asses off calling me Kool_Aid because my stomach and all my Color clothes!?? wahahah funny stuff.
Be yourself and we’ll love ya back!
PEACE
Rock and roll doesn’t have to be just black. Some styles offer black and color, or just a mix of colors. These sites can give you some ideas of outfits you can put together. You don’t have to wear all black or give up black completely, just add some color.
