like my ex boyfriend that i dated at the end of the school year started telling people that i was goth….but every one said i didn’t look like it. only a few people thought i did…i just don’t like bringing attention to my self so i wear darkish clothes and some colorful stuff. but i have a boyfriend that doesn’t and wouldn’t care if i was emo or goth. and it got so bad that it went from goth to emo. and some one had went up to my friend and said "oh my god, did you know that miranda is goth, emo, and that she cuts her wrists?!" which none of that is true. and then a guy in gym did that cough thing where you cough and say something and he was lie "cough emo! cough cough" and then the next day this guy yelled "shut the f*ck up emo girl!" and it made me cry cause it got so bad. and my teachers had forced me to tell them. what can i do? cause people keep spreading it around and half of the 6th grade knows…and i’m in 7th! please give advice?

I’m a Scorpio & I’ve always kinda liked how Goth’s dress.
It says in astrology that we are mysterious, dark minded & not only that we have the Date of Halloween. I don’t know if these are the reasons why I’m drawn to the style but I like it.. do you?

I do find these types of women to be very attractive, yet its rare for me to start dating one because although I like these types of women my style is not the same as there I dress in more of a hiphop/prep/punk sort of way and at time I do dress a bit afrocentric( wearing clothing with Marcus garvey, malcolm x, Nina Simone, and HIM(His Imperial Majesty)….

My question to you all is do you find it hard to make and initial connection with the opposite sex if they fit a group that is in contrast to the one that you fit into?

(we all fit into a group in some way shape or form, these groups never seem to have rigid guidelines so people often flow between many, because many of our interests are shared with so many other people)

Okay, first off, im not labeling anyone or myself, that’s just the dumb classifications that everyone is shoved in…
but heres my story. at my school, everyone calls me ‘emo’ (bull****). well, i have a crush on this guy whos kinda gothic.
i know looks dont tell everything about someone, but we both like to wear black all the time and listen to the same music- metal.
hes a really sweet guy once you know him (but thats another story…) and sometimes i catch him looking at me, whether its looking because im acting stupid, or noticing me on his own.
i was wondering if emo girls arecompatible with goth guys? is that normal for them to date, because i like this guy and i think he likes me…
i would really appreciatre an answer:)

Like seeing a cheerleader type dating a gangster thug.
Or a nerdy girl dating a football stud. Or a goth dating a prep.

You get my point. Do you judge them by their outward appearance and automatically think they are a bad couple? Or do you figure they have something we just dont see?

I know this is quite complicated. Hopefully you don’t get confused. I’m 22 yr old man who is in a relationship with a 21 year old woman. This woman has a son who is 14 months old. I have known the woman on and off for about 3 years. Here’s a little backstory – We actually 1st met each other at the beginning from a goth date site but we lost contact (thanks to one of her friends and she was dating someone at the time.) Then about a year or so later we found each other again. We started talking and after about a few months we met at the mall. It was at the time that i discovered that during the time we were apart she had apparently found someone who she worked with that she liked and had dated them and had a kid together, that had just been born right before we started talking again. She was still with the father and still lived with him. I didn’t mind this, and also the fact she has a wonderful personality and have so much in common, lead me to want to be with her (at a time when I was actually dating someone else)

So we snuck around to see each other and I went to her job (she’s a dancer) to see her. The girl i was with found out and got upset, understandably so, and made me stop talkin to her and to change my number. I changed my number and . gave it to the girl so we could keep talking. So this went on for about another month. This girl was goin to the beach and invited me to go with her. I was planning to go and it was close the day we were goin to leave and my gf at the time found out and got highly upset. I didn’t want to lose her so i promised I wouldn’t talk to her anymore and called her up and told her good goodbye.

Well, 8 months went by and… she found me through myspace. We talked for a few days and decided to meet at a local club. We went and it was slightly ackward at first but then as the night went by it was back to where we left off. I also found out something. She had gotten a tattoo the day we stopped talking, and she had done it for me. For ME!! Well she was still living with the guy and the kid is now about 14 months old. We’ve been sneaking around and seeing each other since the 22 November. This past saturday we went to a few clubs and then we left early and went to my house. That was our first. It was beautiful and amazing. I took her home. Today I went to her house while the guy was at work. We hung out, played with the kid and got a tour of her place. We were playing on the computer..and you know what happened next.

I really love her and she means so much to me. She’s changed my views and opened my eyes to a lot of things. i know she feels the same way I. She really cares for me and loves me very much. She even told me that she hopes that someday we can truely be together as a family as husband and wife. I just want someone elses view points on what’s going on and what I should do.

By the way, I’m single now. My girlfriend at the time broke up with a little after me and that girl stopped talking to be with a guy 10 years older than her.

I am more of a "read far to many Victorian stories as a teen" than a "I want to listen to thrash metal and look scary" type goth. So why do men still get put off by my look?

I am kinda loud and very forward, kinda clever and very independent… But could the goth thing effect how I date?

Erm, I do know the term came from Germanic origins (etc) but I am using the word "goth" in the social context that modern society knows it as.

I am not an unread idiot. Also, goth is a type of architecture and books etc.

Stop trying to appear clever by talking down to people.
And I know what type of goth I am, I state so. I don’t need to be informed as to what I am. I wouldn’t be it if I hadn’t had some conscious thought about it.

Stop staring at the goths at your school and try actually reading instead. Like, education…
