Is it bad that I am gothic in nature?
my sis and a guy told me how i am sinning by being gothic. i dont understand whats up with that! i am still a muslim…its just that i listen to a lot of dark metal music and wear gothic makeup, black clothes and i shut myself often in my bedroom. does that make me evil?

As long as you are not gothic in the city, you are fine. And no, this doesn’t make you a sinner…it’s the animal sacrificing and devil worship that does that.

Of course it’s not sinning! You’re not hurting anyone are you? You need to be your own person and anyone who has a problem with that needs to get over it… plus, religeon shouldnt be about following what everyone else does, it should be about what you believe! Do you believe that wearing goth makeup and listening to dark music is a sin?
People are always trying to mold others and put them into category’s, you might be told that you cant be both…. but dont listen! You can still be goth and be a muslim… dont let anyone tell you otherwise!!!

You may not be an evil person, but your actions are not exactly Islamic. All these things that you mentioned are influenced by shaytan, Islam forbids these things.

No, but believe me, being Goth makes you more depressed and makes life feel like it’s worthless. Stay close to Allah (swt), and He will make things a lot clearer for you. There’s no pressure to fit in.
Evidence of prohibition in the Qur’aan and Sunnah:
Allaah says in Soorat Luqmaan (interpretation of the meaning):
“And of mankind is he who purchases idle talks (i.e. music, singing) to mislead (men) from the path of Allaah…” [Luqmaan 31:6]
The scholar of the ummah, Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: this means singing. Mujaahid (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: this means playing the drum (tabl). (Tafseer al-Tabari, 21/40).

Salamun alaikum sister, may Allah bless you for your attachment to the Islamic faith, however my dear sister I’m gonna have to go with Slave of Allah and Es ay ar ay on this one. Black clothing is not the issue it’s the listening to Heavy Metal music which there is a lot of satanic influences in and the wearing of make up most certainly attract the unwanted attention of vermin who may only see you as an object of pleasure rather than an upright Muslimah. Dress as the Muslimahs dress ie. in hijab and long dress etc. brothers like myself will always keep a watchful, protective eye out for our sisters on the road insha Allah as this type of dress code is generally a deterrent for sex starved vermin. As far as definitions are concerned Allah and his Messenger(saw) have defined good and evil my nassiyah or advice to you is to implement Quran and sunnah and interact a little more with your family insha Allah and get extra blessings as a result. Stay strong sister and any problems give us Muslims a shout on answers and we’ll see what we can do for you Insha Allah.
